The regulation of food and feed containing pesticide residues is governed by sections 402, 408, and 409 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) in the U.S. Section 408 of the FFDCA authorizes the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to establish an acceptance for the maximum amount of a pesticide residue that may be legally present in or on a raw agricultural commodity.
