Bottled Water Processing—The journey from contaminated bodies to fresh bottles

What is Bottled Water Processing?

Bottled water processing is a technique through which water is processed and purified to be fit for consumption. Water is treated through several filters and machines to ensure quality. As the water is being purified, the plastic or glass bottles are manufactured alongside packaging using water bottling machines.

Different Devices, Packaging & End-use Applications

The water is treated through various stages to be fit for consumption. It is initially flown through sediment filters to eliminate large particles like sand, dirt, slime or grit. It is then purified through ion exchange machines for the removal of metallic elements. The water is further processed through a carbon filter and UV light to remove the presence of any pesticide, chlorine, microbiological contaminants, or any other contaminants. Finally, the water is processed using reverse osmosis water system technology where a majority of the undissolved particles are removed, and it is further moved to the packaging bay. The water is generally bottled in plastic bottles or glass bottles. Majority of the companies use PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) bottles for packaging, and the premium brands use glass bottles.

Water can be processed as normal purified bottled water, sparkling water, fruit-flavored water, or alkaline water. Sparkling water is usually served along with Haute cuisines to enhance the experience of the meal. Fruits flavored water is used as a substitute to fruit juice as flavored water only has a hint of the essence of the actual fruit with very less to zero sugar contents. Alkaline water has been gaining popularity due to the presence of alkaline, which is advocated to have health benefits such as anti-aging properties, immune system support, detoxifying, cancer resistance, and others.

Market Drivers

The Bottled water processing industry has been showing a steady growth due to the shift of demand from tap water to purified bottled water owing to the hygiene issues. Tap water is often sourced from open water bodies where they are prone to contaminants of different varieties leading to poor hygiene. This factor has encouraged the public to shift to 5 gallons of sized bottled water. The secure reliability of bottled water has also aided the growth of the market. Bottled water is available at reasonable prices, and has resulted in the water processing plants to expand operation due to the rising needs of bottled water in the market.

Bottled Water Processing Industry Outlook

The leading players in the bottled water processing market have adopted plant expansions and product launch as key strategies. Plant expansions were initiated to expand bottled water processing and increase output by including more technologies to increase efficiency and quality. New products were launched in the market by flavored water manufacturing companies. New flavors such as peach, lychee, mango, raspberry & blackberry were introduced adding to the existing line of products. Major Bottled Water Processing 10 companies are Axeon Water Technologies, Inline Filling Systems Inc., Koch Membrane Systems Inc., Liquid Packaging Solutions Inc., Norland International Inc., PALL Corporation, The DOW Chemical Co., Velocity Equipment Solutions Inc., Lenntech, and Tata Global Beverages.
