Surface-conduction electron-emitter display

(SED) is a display technology developed by Canon and Toshiba. Surface-conduction electron-emitter display (SED) is high-resolution display technology aimed at competing with LCD and plasma displays. Surface-conduction electron-emitter display provides the picture quality of cathode-ray tube (CRT) in a flat-panel format with reducing power consumption to about 50 percent of the power consumption of CRT and 33 percent of the power of plasma displays of a comparable size. The SED works with an array of electron emitters and a layer of phosphor, separated by a small space from which all the air has been evacuated and having dedicated electron emitter for each pixel in the display. Low power consumption by SED is expected to remain one of the key growth drivers for surface-conduction electron-emitter display technology during the period of study.
